History and Culture
Commanding the choicest locale in all of Baja California.
It was here, on a plot of 400 acres of near virgin wonderland, accessible only by yacht or helicopter, that Don Abelardo Rodriguez, son of the Mexican president, and his wife, Hollywood star Lucille Bremmer, built the first resort in Los Cabos.
Their 15-room luxury hideaway quickly drew an exclusive guestlist including John Wayne, Lucille Ball, and the former United States President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, drawn by its old-world luxury, ambassadorial discretion, and exhilarating deep-sea fishing.
The crystal clear waters (“the world’s aquarium” as Jacques Cousteau once called them) were highly prized by the original inhabitants, the Pericúes Indians, who dived for pearls, as well as hunting in the desert, leaving behind rock art of dart-riddled dee r. Following the arrival of Hernán Cortés in 1535, the region became known for its Je suit missionaries, pirates, soldiers of fortune, and pearl industry.
We were the first to share the magic of Baja with the world, when our golf course used to be the landing strip. Though our guests’ needs have evolved, our philosophy remains the same. Whether Facetiming loved ones in front of the curvature of the earth, or spending a private Christmas in Villa Cortez and writing your own family’s history; we still exist to bring you joy in this magical corner of the planet.
